Abstract: The reproductive biology of Asian clam Corbicula fluminea collected from Dayang River in Liaoning Province was studied from July 2005 to August 2006. The reproductive cycle, condition index, gonadal development, spawning season, and embryonic and larval development were described in this paper. The gonadal development was divided into proliferating stage, growing stage, maturing stage, spawning stage, restoration stage and resting stage. The condition index were found to increase as the water temperature increased from February to October. The clam spawned from early June to the mid-October, with peaks on mid-June and early October during water temperature ranging from 16.0 to 16.5 ℃. The one year old clams with about 10-15 mm in shell length had mature gonads with a ratio of female to male 1∶〖KG-*3〗1. After drying in shade and irradiated by ultraviolet radiation, the mature clams were induced to spawn in water. The demersal fertilized eggs with colloid membrane in freshwater (20-22 ℃, pH 7.3-7.8) developed into a settlement spat with the shell length of 200 μm 10 days after incubation.
