Abstract: The brood stock rearing, artificial spawning, fertilization and embryonic development of forktonge goby Glossogobius giuris were studied to develop artificial breeding techniques of forktonge goby. The development time and morphological characteristics of each embryonic development stage were described. The ripe forktonge goby were induced to spawn by twice injections of hormone, with spawning success of 60%-80%,fertilization rate of 73.4%-81.2%and hatching rate of 63.8%-77.2%.The fertilized eggs were translucent, adhensive and fusiform in shape, and the embryonic development was divided into 7 physiological stages includding fertilized egg stage, cleavage stage, blastula stage, gastrula stage, neural stage, organogenesis stage and hatching stage with 26 substages. The fertilized eggs were hatched in 108 hours at 25-27℃.Newly hatehed larvae had average body length of 2.5-3.5 mm,total length of 2.7-3.8 mm with about 26-28 myomeres and heart beating rate of 50-55 times per minute. The findings might provide theoretical guidance for protection of resources and artificial breeding of forktonge goby.
