Abstract: Burbot Lotalota, the only freshwater fish in family Gadidae mostly distributed in the alpine waters with high economic value, medicinal value and special scientific research value, has fallen sharply in natural waters and is on the verge of extinction, making it one of the world’s most urgently exploited species, due to environmental damage and overfishing. At present, most researches are focused on resource investigation, reproductive development and artificial domestication in burbot. Therefore, this paper reviews the classification, biological characteristics and artificial culture and propagation technology of burbot in order to provide references with the industrial breeding, artificial releasing, and rational exploitation of burbot stock.
