Abstract: Growth and development of Manila clam (Ruditapes philippinarum) were investigated in different geographical populations including Putai ( PT), Dalian (DL) and Tokyo (DJ) on June 2007. The results showed that there were no significant differences in egg - diameter, and sizes in D larvae and single - siphon juveniles, but significant difference in sizes at settlement and metamorphosis and morphology of the broodstocks among different geographical populations. At the pelagic stage, shell length was smaller in DL population than that in PT and DJ populations. The daily growth and survival rates were found to be (9.37 ±0.44), (8.70 ±0.51), (9.28 ±0.59) um and (95.08 ± 1.87 ) %, ( 85.22 ± 3.34 ) %, ( 75.32 ± 3.49 ) % in the three populations larvae, respectively. During metamorphosis, there were significant differences in growth, metamorphosis rate, metamorphic time, and size at metamorphosis among the three populations. During the nursing stage indoor, the maximal shell length was observed in the PT population, followed by DJ population, and next to DL population. The daily growth and survival rates were (22.60±4.04), (20.67±4.74), (18.74 ±5.15)um and (87.07±4.29)%, (66.73± 6.43) %, (35.75 ± 4.84) % in larvae of the three populations, respectively. During the rearing stage outdoor, the maximal shell length was found in the PT population, followed by DL population, and next to DJ population. The daily growth of (86.94 ±21.72), (75.23 ±16.91), and (67.25 ± 18.26)um and survival rates of (90.21 ± 4.68 ) %, (66.73 ± 4.94 ) %, and (56.98 ± 6.58 ) % were observed in larvae of the three populations, respectively.
