Abstract: The effects of different oxygen concentrations on biofiher fuction and growth performance in juvenile turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) were studied in a closed recirculating aquaculture system. The results showed that it took 8 days for the biofilter function establishment at dissolved oxygen concentration of 10.11 and 11.91 mg/L, earlier than normal condition. The 24 h total ammonia (TNH3 - N) removing rate of 89.60% was observed at (TNH3 -N) concentration of 0. 696 mg/L in the hyperoxic group, and the time when (TNH3 -N) concentration was reduced to 0.2 mg/L was 6 h earlier in the hyperoxic group than that in the control group. The 30 day feeding trail showed that there was improvement in weight gain rate, specific growth rate, and food conversion under the hyperoxic condition. No significant difference in growth was observed in the hyperoxic groups even though the (TNH3 - N) concentration was kept at 0. 700 mg/L(P 〉0.05).
