Abstract: The effects of increase in suspended sediment concentration on survival rate, growth and filtration rate of juvenile Manila clamRuditapesphilippinarumwith shell length of 7.28 mm±0.40 mm at water temperature of(17.5±0.5)℃ in a laboratory. Acute test showed that Manila clam had survival rate of 100% at suspended sediment concentration(determined concentration) of less than 9888 mg/L for 96 h. Chronic test (20 d) showed that levels of ammonia, nitrite and CODMnwere found increase with elevated suspended sediment concentration. Significantly poor growth was observed in the Manila clam exposed to suspended sediment concentration of over 300 mg/L(P<0.05). The significantly lower filtration rate was found in the Manila clam exposed to suspended sediment concentration of 300 mg/L for 12 days(P<0.05). The maximum allowable suspended sediment concentration without effect on growth and filtration was between 188 and 300 mg/L.
