Abstract: Akt(RAC-alpha serine/threonine-protein kinase)as a serine(Ser) or threonine(Thr) protein kinase, known as protein kinase B(PKB, functions as phosphorylation of a variety of transcription factors, and plays an essential rolein cell multiplication, cellular immune response, cell metabolism regulation, cell development and survival. At present, there were few research on Akt gene in aquatic animals, so we reviewed the sequence characteristics, evolutionary characteristics, and main pathways involved in Akt gene in aquatic animals, as well as the biological functions involved in regulation of embryonic development of fish, and immune defense processes of crustaceans and shellfish. In the future, more Akt gene information of aquatic animals can be obtained by homologous cloning or genome data mining technology so as to understand systematically and comprehensively the evolution characteristics and rules of Akt gene in aquatic animals, and to further explore the response rules of Akt gene in different aquatic animals and the interaction mechanism between Akt gene and downstream target genes under different physiological and pathological conditions. Further screening and mining of epigenetic regulators that can regulate Akt gene expression in aquatic animals can provide abundant information and clues for fully understanding and utilizing of the biological functions of Akt gene in aquatic animals.
