Abstract: The growth of germ cells in sludge worm Perinereis aibuhitensis was determined at vanous temperature and photoperiods. The growth of the germ ceils in the direct warming group was found to be (2.46 ± 0.06) × 10-2 μm3/d and (2.26 ±0. 1) × 10-21μm3/d at L: D = 16:8 and L: D =8: 16, respectively. In the cooling group, however, the germ cells had growth rate of (3.21 ±0.09)× 10-2μm3/d and (2.56 ±0.05) × 10-21μm3/d at L: D = 16:8 and L: D =8: 16, respectively. Two factor analysis of variance indicated that the difference in growth of germ cells in stages of vitellogenesis in constant low temperature was very significant( P 〈 0.01 ), and that the difference in photoperiod was significant (P 〈0. 01 ). The effect of growth of germ cells on the interaction between low temperature and photoperiod was very significant (P 〈0.01 ). In addition, the effect of the low temperature on variation in diameters of germ cells was very significant ( P 〈0.01 ). The effect of the photoperiod on diameters of germ ceils was not significant ( P 〉 0.05), and the effect of the interaction between low temperature and photoperiod on variation in growth of germ cells was not significant ( P 〉 0.05 ).
