Abstract: Mercury (Hg)distribution in body and damage to gill tissue in common carp ( Cyprinus carpio ) ware determined at a water temperature of 21-25℃. It was found that different forms of mercury in water were changed into methyl mercury by microorganism. Inorganic mercury was changed into methyl mercury in fish body through methylation. When the concentration of Hg was 10 μg/L, the gill tissue secreted more mucus in 24 h; at 20 μg Hg/L, the gill epithelia were swellen in 10 d;when the concentration of Hg was kept at 40 (μg/L) for 30 days, the adjacent gill filaments was melted and lost its lamella, leading to weak respiratory function.
