Abstract: In order to describe the distribution of phytoplankton in Liaodong Bay quantitatively, the temporal and spatial distribution characteristics of chlorophyll a concentration were surveyed in Liaodong Bay, China, via concentration of chlorophyll a in water as the characterization index by using numerical simulation method. In this paper, the hydrodynamic model of this area was firstly established, and then the ecosystem dynamics model with multi factor coupling influence was constructed by inputting the biochemical reaction process among various water quality and ecological index variables, being verified based on the monitoring and detection data of Liaodong Bay in 2020. The results showed that the simulated values were in good agreement with the measured values, with the root mean square error of less than 15%, proving that the model had high accuracy. There was significantly higher concentration of chlorophyll a in the sea areas of Liaodong Bay near Liaohe Estuary, Huludao and Changxing Island than that in other sea areas, with significantly higher average concentration in August than that in May, and the ratio of about 1.6 times between August and May, indicating that there were obvious seasonal distribution characteristics in the concentration of chlorophyll a. The simulated result of chlorophyll a concentration reached the peak (13.4 μg/L) in mid-May, and then the concentration was decreased significantly due to the changes in alga respiration and sedimentation. In August, the abundance of algae was shown to be increased, with another peak of chlorophyll a concentration (21.3 μg/L).The result was consistent with the bimodal structure characteristics of phytoplankton abundance distribution trend over the years. The multi factor coupling ecosystem dynamics model constructed in this paper was found to have high repetition and prediction performance for the ecosystem dynamics in the sea area and to be applied in the restoration of biological resources, fishery construction and red tide early warning in the sea area.
