Abstract: A pathogenic bacterial strain GC1was isolated from the liver, spleen and kidney of the diseased Taiwan snakeheadChannamaculata, and identified asAeromonasschubertiiaccording to its morphologic and physio-biochemical characteristics. Using the general primers of bacterial 16S rRNA, the gene fragments were amplified by PCR with about 1502 bp, and the obtained gene sequence was compared with the one in GenBank on the base of 16S rRNA. The Blast showed that GC1had the maximum homologies (i.e., 99%) with the sequence ofA.schubertiiand the phylogenetic tree further revealed that this strain clustered together withA.schubertii[GQ845453].Furthermore, the artificial infection tests verified that GC1had a strong virulence, with LD50of 104.5CFU/mL. By testing with 29 medicaments, high sensitivity was found to Cet riaxone, Cefobid,Cefalexin Granules, Cefalotin, Cefalin V, Nalidixic acid, Tetracycline, Ofloxacin and Fleroxacin;however, the strain GC1was shown to be insensitive to Penicillin G, bacitracin and Oxacillin.
