Abstract: Hybridization was carried out within and among different geographical populations of crab Portunus trituberculatus to breed new strains. Seven populations of first filial generations were obtained, in which three populations , designated ZZ1, LL1 and HH1, were from wild populations of Zhoushan ( ZS), Laizhou Bay ( LZ), and Haizhou Bay(HZ). Two populations ZL1, and LS1 were from cross between ZS and LZ, two populations HLl and LH1 were from cross between LZ and HZ. Analysis of five growth traits, total carapace width, carapace width, carapace length, body height and body weight by ANOVA revealed that some traits were significantly different among the seven populations of first filial generations. There existed different extent heterosis(0.33% -46.12% )for growth in total carapace width, carapace width, carapace length, body height, body weight and livability in first filial generation of four hybrids. Heterosis was different in different combinations and traits, indicating that the seven populations were considered as the basic populations to breed new strains. Increased variation parameters in first filial generation of cross could be a very good potential for new strain selecting.
