Abstract: The effects of mandibular organ(MO) on ovarian development of Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis) were studied using implantation and injection method. The results showed that there was significant increase in gonado -somatic index (GIS) and oocyte diameter in the crab implanted MO (P 〈0.05). The crab implanted MO had higher total ovary RNA without significant differences. Two crabs were found to develop into vitellogenesis while no viteUogenesis was observed on the crab in control group. There was significant increase in oocyte diameter in the crab injected MO ( P 〈 0.05). The crab injected MO had higher GIS and total ovary RNA without significant differences( P 〉 0.05 ). Four crabs were observed to develop into vitellogenesis stage while only one crab developed into viteUogenesis stage in control group.
