Abstract: Body weight(Y) and 8 morphological traits including total length (X1), body length (X2), body height (X3), body width (X4), head length (X5), trunk length (X6), length of caudal peduncle (X7) and depth of caudal peduncle (X8) were measured in three-month-old black porgy Sparusmacrocephalus and the multiple regression relationship between other morphological traits (as independent variables) and body weight (as dependent variables) was analyzed using correlation analysis and path analysis. The results showed that there was a significant positive correlation between morphological traits and body weight, with very significance(P<0.01). The stepwise regression analysis indicated that the optimal linear regression equation was expressed as: Y=-6.347+0.389 X2+1.690X5+0.364X1+0.544X6+0.555X4+0.591X7+0.650X8+0.404X3. The path analysis revealed that body length displayed the maximal positive direct effect (0.288) on body weight, other traits affecting body weight indirectly via body height. The findings indicate that body length and body height should be considered for the indirect selective breeding of body weight in selective breeding of three-month-old black porgy besides body weight.
