Abstract: The changes in levels of glycogen, free fatty acid, total protein, and free amino acid were studied in liver, plasma and muscle of yellow catfish?Pelteobagrus?fulvidraco?with body weight of (60.9±0.5) g exposed to parasitic stress of glochidia of freshwater mussel?Hyriopsis?cumingii?at different parasitic stages at water temperature of (24.0±0.5)℃ to evaluate the effects of glochidia on nutritional status in the host. The results showed that there was no significant difference in glycogen level in liver in parasitic group and control group at the same time (P>0.05), without significant change in glycogen level in muscles(P>0.05). The yellow catfish had significantly lower free fatty acid level in liver in the parasitic group than the fish in the control group did in later parasitism(12 d)(P<0.05), without significant difference in earlier stage(2 d) and middle stage(5 d). There was no significant difference in free fatty acid level in serum and muscle in the parasitic group than that in the control group(P>0.05). The significant decrease in total protein level was observed in liver in both parasitic group and control group in middle and later parasitism (P<0.05), without significant changes in total protein level in plasma and muscle (P>0.05). The yellow catfish in parasitic group had significantly lower free amino acid in plasma in middle and later parasitism than the fish in the control group(P<0.05), significantly lower free amino acid level in liver in later parasitism than the fish in the control group did(P<0.05), without significant difference in earlier and middle parasitism(P>0.05). The findings indicate that the glochidia leads to decline in levels of free fatty acid in liver, free amino acid content in plasma and liver, indicating that fatty acids and free amino acids might be the key nutrition factors for the development of glochidium.
