Abstract: Cryopreservation of germ cells or embryos has been considered as one of important technical approaches for aquatic animal germplasm resources preservation, and a main way to provide essential basic breeding materials for the creation and breeding of new aquatic animal varieties. In recent years, cryopreservation of spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) or embryonic stem cells (ESs) has become a new cryopreservation technology in aquaculture research fields due to its many advantages including self-renewal potential, differentiation potential and in vitro transplantation compared to germ cells and embryos. We reviewed the recent research on SSCs and ESs cryopreservation techniques in animals in aquaculture and their applications in recent years in order to systematically understanding the application of cryopreservation technology of SSCs or ESs in aquaculture animal germplasm preservation and new species creation. The article here will further enrich and improve basic data of aquatic animal sperm and embryo cryopreservation and preservation techniques, and provide reference ith making full use of cryopreservation techniques to improve the protection of high-quality germplasm resources of economically important aquatic animals and the efficiency of new species breeding.
