Abstract: In the present study,shell length(X1),shell width(X2),shell height(X3)and body weight(Y) weremeasured and effects of shellmorphological traits on body weightwere analyzed statistically using correlation a-nalysis,PCA(Principal Component Analysis)and path analysis in black blotching and red color strains of the 7 year selective F4clam Meretrixmeretrix to obtain hereditary excellent population of the clam by the optimalmultiregression equation between shellmorphological traits and body weight.It was found that there was no significant difference in phenotypic traits in the two clam strains(P>0.05).However,there were differentmain shellmor-phological traits affecting body weight in the two tested strains of clam,shell height and shellwidth being themajor factors affecting body weight in black blotching strain and shell length being themajor factors affecting body weight in red color strain(P<0.01).The optimalmulti-regression equation was expressed as Y=-8.308+0.361X2+ 0.391X3in black blotching clam and Y=-8.389+0.500X1in red color clam.The findingswill contribute to genet-ic selection breeding of the clam in production practice.
