Abstract: Species composition and population dynamics of rotifer Brachionus plicatilis complex were studied in a coastal lagoon during July to December in 2002. According to morphological character and measurements, species of B.plicatilis complex were identified as five sibling species: B.plicatilis Yamamoto, B.plicatilis Müller, B.rotundiformis, B.ibericus Dalia, and B.hepatotomus Dalian, which were classified into three main groups: L, SS and SM types. Seasonal population distribution indicated that distribution of B.plicatilis complex in the test waters followed incomplete genetic discontinuity model. Population growth rate of different types in B.plicatilis complex were calculated by using grey model theory. In the study causation of speciation in B.plicatilis complex and effects of ecological factors on rotifer distribution were discussed. Moreover, Fisher's morphometric discriminant equation of the five rotifer types were discribed.
