Abstract: The morphological structure and reproductive cycle of testis in rockfish,Sebastes schlegeli, was studied by a histological method. The results show that the rockfish testes are of lobular type.Sperm cells are developed through primary spermatogonia, secondary spermatogonia, primary spermatocytes, secondary spermatocytes, spermatid, and spermatozoa. The testes were at the stage of spermatogenic proliferation from May to July when primary spermatogonia were divided and developed into secondary spermatogonia and Sertoli cells which form spermatogenic cysts. From September to November in the spermatogenic testis, germ cells in the spermatogenic cysts developed into sperm gradually. The sperm degeneration and absorption were observed from January to March when there were only primary spermatogonia and some sperm remains.Gonado-somatic index(GSI)was found to be peaked in late development(stage Ⅳ) and the peake of hepatosomatic index(HSI) was found in stage Ⅴ.
