Abstract: Induction and culture of filaments and seedling were conducted in sea weed Scytosiphon lomentaria. The filaments were developed into clusters of 1-2 cm in diameter through the induction and incubation. Massive crusts were yielded from the proliferated filaments and zoospores were released from the mature crusts at 10 ℃ and 15 ℃. The juveniles with the length of 0.5-1.0 cm adhered on vinylon strings were obtained in 35 day indoor culture at 10 ℃, indicating that this method provides a new way for nursing the seeding. The filaments were produced from the crusts with diameter over 100 μm, and the optimal formation and best growth of the filaments were observed at 20 ℃. It took only 5 days for the crust formation at 20 ℃, but 10 days at 15 ℃ and 12 days at 10 ℃. The formation rates of the crusts reached up to 100% at 20 ℃, 65% at 15 ℃ and 40% at 10 ℃ in 20 day culture.
