Abstract: Seventy-nine strains of marine bacteria isolated from the surfaces of ten species of seaweeds were tested for antifungal activity by the indictors of sixteen strains of fungi which were isolated from seaweeds Ulva lactuca and Enteromorpha sp. Forty seven bacterial isolates, accounting for 59.5% of the total tested, showed the activities against at least one target fungal strain. The percentages of active bacterial strains were variant among their hosting seaweeds. These results suggest that seaweeds-associated bacteria may help the host against colonization of fouling fungi.
