Abstract: The maturation process and the feature of biofilm, the changes of water quality of cultivating Paralichthys olivaceus of different stocking densities and the ability of purifying in self-purification tanks were studied by determining the changes of concentrations of total ammonia nitrogen (TAN), NO-2-N, NO-3-N, PO4-P and COD Mn. The removal rate of ammonia of the biological purification bed was 46.0 g/(m3·d). Under a density of 2.30 kg/m2 (it was similar to integrated culture of flatfish),water was changed every five days in self-purification tanks and water quality index was satisfied.
