Abstract: The eye lens, as one of the most important hard structures characterized by stale morphology, easy extraction and preservation in Cephalopoda, record lots of biological and ecological information, and is of supplementary material, besides beak, statolith and inner shell, to investigate cephalopod life history. According to published data, eye lens can be used to estimate cephalopod age and growth, and elemental signatures and stable isotopes are considered to be useful for reconstructing cephalopod habitat, migration and feeding ecology. Accurate grasp of the growth periodicity of eye lens is still required in future research to determine the exact time and age of each section, and to reconstruct life history information of cephalopods including habitat, migration and trophic ecology, although the eye lens have advantage in age determination in time series.
