The particle size profiles of phytoplankton in general reservoirs in Liaoling Province

Abstract: The particle size profiles of phytoplankton was studied in typical reservoirs,Liaoning province,China, in May,July and September from 2010 to 2011.Cyanophyta,Chlorophyta,and Bacillariophyta were found to be the predominant during the survey,the maximal Bacillariophyta biomass representing 68.82%of the total phytoplankton biomass.There was the minimal biomass of Chrysophyta,only accounting for 0.05%of the total biomass. Cyanophyta particles were varied from 1.72 to 15.96 μm in size in ESD,Bacillariophyta particle sizes were ranged from 8.63 to 95.86 μm,Chlorophyta particle sizes from 8.58 to 66.46 μm,and Chrysophyta particle size from 18.97-26.94 μm.The biomass size spectra were found to be the“bimodal”in Dahuofang Reservoir at September, the biomass decrease as the equivalent diameter of a sphere increase,with the peak at[10-15)μm and the minimum at[20-50)μm.The“bimodal”biomass size spectra were observed in Tanghe Reservoir in July,with the maximum at[10-15)μm and the minimum at[20-50)μm.Phytoplankton normalized biomass size spectra slope of the regression line was all-0.59 in Dahuofang Reservoir and-0.53 in Tanghe Reservoir.
