Abstract: In order to explore the optimal temperature range of rotifer Brachionusplicatilis domesticated under low salinity for large-scale cultivation, the life history parameters were determined in the rotifer domesticated at a salinity of 6 (test group)and 23 (control group)for 1 year at temperature of 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, and 28 ℃ to evaluate the effects of temperature on the life history parameters of the rotifer by individual culture method. The results showed that the rotifer in the two salinity groups had increase in life expectancy (e0), generation time (T), net reproductive rate (R0), intrinsic growth rate (rm), average life span and egg production with the increase in temperature, with the maximal values of e0, average life span and T at 26 ℃, and the maximal R0, rm and egg production at 28 ℃ in the rotifer domesticated under low salinity at salinity of 6. There were not significantly different e0 and average life span in the rotifer at salinity of 6 from rotifer at salinity of 23 under the same temperature (P>0.05). However, under the same temperature except 20 ℃, the R0 of rotifer at salinity of 6 was found to be significantly lower than that in the rotifer at salinity of 23 (P<0.05), without significant difference in T between the two salinity groups (P>0.05). There was no significant difference in the rm of the rotifer in the two salinity groups at 18 ℃ and 20 ℃ (P>0.05), but there were significant differences in the other temperature groups (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in egg production in the rotifer in the two salinity groups at 20 ℃ and 22 ℃ (P>0.05), in the other temperature groups, however, significantly higher egg production in the rotifer at salinity of 23 than that at salinity of 6 (P<0.05). In conclusion, in the temperature ranging from 26 ℃ to 28 ℃, large-scale production of rotifer B.plicatilis domesticated to salinity 6 is feasible. The findings provide basic data for the large-scale cultivation of rotifer B.plicatilis in low-salt water by low salinity acclimation.
