A marine alga counting method based on an image processing technology

Abstract: An automatic statisticalmethod of alga number is described based on an image processing technology depending upon characteristics ofmarine algamicroscopic image.Thismethod is conducted by the following prodedures.Firstly,the alga image is executed by wavelet de-noising,and then the de-noising image is enhanced by the dilation operation ofmorphology.Secondly,the image is segmented by Otsu algorithm and the open operation of morphology.Finally,the binary image segmented is labeled in accordance with the region of the algae,and the concentration of the algae in thewater is calculated by the alga number in the image.The program about themarine alga counting is coded according to themethod given in the paper.The experiments show that themethod here is feasible and effective for alga counting.
