Abstract: The effects of light(light intensity, light spectrum and photoperiod)on the growth of jellyfish Sanderia malayensis larvae were studied. The results showed that there were better grown under natural light and lower light than those in darkness(P<0.05).The larvae in red light group showed the best growth performance all the time, and the larvae in white light group had a better growth performance at the last two parts of the experiment, their umbrella diameters being all significant higher than those in the blue light group(P<0.05),indicating that the larvae were not sensitive to blue light. There was significantly larger umbrella diameter in the larvae in the photoperiod of 16 h L∶8 h dark than that in the other groups(P<0.05).It is suggested that suitable length of light period facility the growth of the jellyfish larvae.
