Abstract: The heavy metals pollution and potential risk were analyzed by the data of heavy metals in the surface sediments surveyed in the expected marine ranching area in Dachangshan waters in May, August and November of 2013. The single pollution indices of six heavy metals Pb, Cd, Cu, Zn, As and Hg was found to be less than 1, and their integrated pollution indices <5, showing a low pollution level. There were low levels of potential ecological risk in heavy metal concentrations at all the survey stations as the single factor risk indices was found less than 40, and the integrated risk indices less than 95. The findings indicate that the proposed waters are suitable for construction of marine ranching area due to a good quality of surface sediments and a low potential ecological risk.
