Abstract: The catch of tuna purse-seine fishery was increased sharply because of wide utilization of artificial fish aggregating devices(FADs)in tropical oceans in the past years, and many ecological effects were found as well. This paper summarized the researches on interactions between FADs and yellowfin tuna Thunnus albacares in the past 30 years from the aspects of the behavioral pattern of yellowfin tuna under FADs,the effects of FADs on biolo-gy and ecology of yellowfin tuna and the FAD fishing management worldwide in order to further understand the effects of FADs on biology and ecology of yellowfin tuna. The large-scale utilization of FADswas shown to poten-tially affect the behavioral pattern of yellowfin tuna, and the effect level and pattern is considered because of limited tagging experiments, tagged individuals and periods.FADswill affect the health and growth of yellowfin tuna popu-lations and feeding habit. The development of some new technologies and methods(e.g.acoustic device, tagging release-recapture,satellite positioning, etc.)also promotes the research in the field, but the behavior of fish is not understood in a long period.Tagging release-recapture technique, especially archival tagging will become themain approach in the future, and the focus should be shifted from single FAD to network distribution of FAD,in order to clarify whether interactionswill be occurred between yellowfin tuna and FAD.The drifting FAD should also be fur-ther studied. The globalmanagementon FAD fishingmethod should increasingly be paidmore attention because the regional fisheriesmanagement organizations and coastal regionsmake uncertain utilization of FAD fishingmethod.
