Morphological variations and discrimination of four fish species Chinese bahaba Bahaba flavolabiata, large yellow croaker Pseudosciaena crocea, Ting'wak Wak tingi and spinyhead croaker Collichthys lucidus

Abstract: Three multivariate morphometrics were used to investigate the morphological variations in 4 fish species Chinese bahaba Bahabaflavolabiata, large yellow croaker Pseudosciaena crocea, Ting's wak Wak tingi and spiny head croaker Collichthys lucidus. ANOVA indicated that four species showed significant morphological variations (P 〈 0.01 ). The principal component analysis and cluster analysis revealed that the large yellow croaker and spinyhead croaker had similar morphological characters and much more differences from Chinese bahaba. The discriminant functions of four Sciaenidae species were established, with accuracy of 98.31% - 100% (P1) and 98. 36% - 100% (P2) ,and average accuracy of 99.46%.
