Abstract: Barnacles as common fouling organisms in China marine waters have high bonding strength, and thus they are difficult to be removed. In this paper,an adhesion model was established by COMSOL Multiphysics and removal simulation study was conducted in barnacles attached to the surface of hull. The data including stress, strain and the tensile stress of extracellular secretion were obtained when the barnacles were removed. The results showed that in the simulation model barnacles were removed at an external force(clearance)of 180 N.The stress intensity of simulated extracellular secretion(EPS)was about 0.2 MN/m2,and the viscous strain of the colloid for 0.29 J/m3.The findings are consistent with the previous experimental results and provide a way for the subsequent preparation for biological removal of barnacles.
