Changes in growth of Pacific white leg shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei, and nitrogen and phosphorus budgets with culture time

Abstract: The growth was studied in Pacific white leg shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei reared in an indoor tanks for 20,40,60,and 80 days and water quality and nitrogen and phosphorus budgets were monitored in the culture tanks at different culture time.The results showed that the main water quality indexes including pH,DO,TAN, NH3-N,NO-2-N,and CODMnwere effectively controlled within safe range at different culture period.The regression equations of body weight(W)-length(L)relationship of the shrimp was expressed as W=aLb(a:0.0126 to 0.0135,b:2.7919 to 2.8873),and the linear correlation between body length and culture time was described as L=at+b(a:0.0673 to 0.0818,b:1.7310 to 2.1536),with the linear relationship between body weight and culture time of W=at+b(a:0.0187 to 0.0496,b:-0.3390 to 0.0535).The relationship between survival and culture time was expressed as a logarithmic equation of S=-11.807 ln t+100.66.The diets were found to be the main factor affecting the nitrogen and phosphorus inputs,followed by initial water quality and the shrimp size in each pond at different culture time.The output nitrogen and phosphorus derived from the shrimp were found to be dropped over the culture procedure.
