Abstract: The fault tree analysis(FTA) method in system safety analysis is applied to analyze the marine accidents. As an example, the fault tree is built up according to the influence of various factors of ship collision accident and their logical relationship, and analyzed qualitatively to find out important degree coefficient of each factor and minimal path-sets.Then control measures of accidents are put forward to avoid the ship collision accidents. The results show that this method can reflect the fact systemically and objectively, find out the direct reasons for the accidents, summarize the experiences and lessons, and put forward the precautionary measures. It may play an important role in the control of marine traffic accidents.
