A study on the hydrodynamic characteristics of spheral sinkers and circular cylinder sinkers under pure currents

Abstract: Based on the physical model tests, the forces acting on spheral sinkers and circular cylinder sinkers under pure current were studied. The drag force coefficients of spheral sinkers and circular cylinder sinkers were calculated and the factors affected on them were analyzed. The experimental result showed that the drag force coefficients of spheral sinkers were bigger than the one commonly used due to its motion under current conditions and had significantly related with Renault number. With the same Renault number, the drag force coefficients of circular cylinder sinker were apparently bigger than those of spheral sinkers and correlated with the Renault number and geometry shape.
