Abstract: Growth rate and chlorophyll content in four alga species Chlorella, lsochrysis zhanjiangersis, Platymonas helgolandica and Dunaliella viridis were determined in different photoperiods, light intensity and light quality. Results showed that there was the maximal growth in photoperiod of 18L: 6D, which was 0. 227, 0. 150, 0. 175 ind./d and 0. 360 ind./d for Chlorella, Isochrysis zhangjiangersis, Platymonas helgolandica and Dunaliella viridis, respectively. Maximal growth rate was also observed at 5 000 lx light intensity, which was 0.225, 0. 188, 0. 174 ind./d and 0. 261 ind./d for Chlorella, Isochrysis zhangjiangersis, Platymonas helgolandica and Dunaliella viridis, respectively. In different light spectra, maximal growth occurred in white light, which was 0. 185, 0. 165, 0.257 ind./d and 0. 322 ind./d for Chlorella, Isochrysis zhangjiangersis, Platymonas helgolandica and Dunaliella viridis, respectively. There was higher chlorophyll content in blue light than in other treatments. Also, cell cycle of Platymonas sp. was studied in four light qualities. Results indicated that proportion of stage G1 of Platymonas sp. was the least in red light, followed by white light. The proportion of stage G1 were 3.8% - 5.9% higher in green and blue light than in red and white light. It is suggested that nature and red light be the optimal culture light quality.
