Comparison of karyotypes of the F1 hybrid (Megalobrama hoffmanni ♀× M. amblycephala ♂ ) with its parents

Abstract: Karyotypes of the F1 hybrid (M. hoffmanni ×M. amblycephala ) and its paren-tal fishes were examined using the chromosomes prepared from kidney cell by air - drying meth-od. The diploid chromosome numbers of these three fishes are all 50, the largest chromosomesof which are all in the group of submetacentric chromosome. The karyotype of maternal fish(M. amblycephala) is composed of 13 metacentric chromosome pairs, 9 submetacentric chro-mosome pairs and 2 subtelocentric chromosome pairs, which can be expressed as 26m + 18sm+ 4st. Its fundamental arm numbers ( NF) are 92. The karyotype of its paternal fish is 26m +22sm and its NF are 96. The karyotype and NF of the hybrid fish are the same as the maternalfish. The karyotypes of the parental fishes are very alike which is the cytogenetic basis for thesuccess of the hybrid experiment and fertileness of the hybrids.
