The main physical and chemical characterization and correlation of surface sediment at marine ranching area in Haizhou Bay

Abstract: The particle size,sediment type,concentrations of heavy metal,and total nitrogen and phosphorus levels were detected based on the survey data of surface sediment at the marine ranching area in Haizhou Bay in 2011. The results showed that the particle sizes were found to be variable from φ4.44 to φ6.14,that is,between silt and clay,which was attributed to the northeast-wind wave of the bay mouth.The concentrations of Cu,Zn,Pb and Cd were shown higher now than before 2010,especially Cu being far more higher than the third standard of sediment quality with highly temporal and spatial variation,which apparently was affected by tidal current sediment movement.The levels of N and P were changed steadily,and the quantitative relationship models among the indexes of some heavy metals with small change for each quarter a year were established.
