A feeding trial was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary astaxanthin and Spirulina on the carotenoids contents and the metabolic pathways in different tissues of ornmmental carp Cyprinus carpio with initial body weight of(7.31±0.12)g.The fish were stocked into 90 L blue plastic tanks at a rate of 22 individuals/tank and fed the diets containing astaxanthin(130 mg/kg)and Spirulina(12%)for 21 days, and then fed the diet without astaxanthin and Spirulina for 20 days. The results showed that the carotenoid contents in different tissues of the fish were found to increase with increase in feeding period. The total deposition of the carotenoid content was mainly concentrated in the skin and fin, following in the hepatopancreas, eyes, and muscle of the fish. There were significant differences in carotenoids contents in eyes, muscle and hepatopancreas with increasing feeding period, but in the dorsal fin, caudal fin and skin of the fish significant difference with time increase. The total carotenoid contents in various tissues were found gradual decrease in the fish fed the basal diets as the feeding time prolonged. The total carotenoid contents in body surface was found significant increase 9 days after the fish fed the diet containing astaxanthin. In the fish fed the diet containing Spirulina, however, the significant increase in total carotenoid contents in body surface was observed 13 days later.
