Abstract

In order to obtain an efficient aerobic denitrifier and ascertain the aerobic denitrification capacity, a salt-tolerant and efficient aerobic denitrifier was isolated from seawater in recirculating aquaculture systems(RAS).The effects of dissolved oxygen(5.58, 6.87, and 7.48 mg/L regulated by various speeds of 90, 120 and 150 r/min), C/N ratio(3, 5, 10, and 15)and temperature(20, 30 and 40 ℃)on the aerobic denitrification performance and nitrogen conversion pathway were investigated. The results showed that the isolated aerobic denitrifier was identified as Halomonas sp.HRL-11.At high salinity(31), the optimal nitrate nitrogen reduction by HRL-11 was observed under conditions of 150 r/min(initial DO concentration 7.48 mg/L), C/N 10 and 30 ℃, with 100 mg/L  as the sole nitrogen source by HRL-11, the OD600nm value of 1.4 in 48 h, the removal efficiency of 91.5% for , and the removal efficiency of 69.4% for TOC and the removal efficiency of 65.6% for TN.The nitrogen balance analysis revealed that 19.44% of  was transformed into intracellular nitrogen, 25.87% of  was transformed into other nitrification products  and organic nitrogen), and 46.19% of  was transformed into gaseous products by Halomonas sp.The findings indicate that Halomonas sp.HRL-11 has excellent salt-tolerance and aerobic denitrification performance and the potential application to treat high-salinity wastewater in industrialized seawater RAS.
